Those of us who had Grace Shields for english remember writing many themes.  Theme writing was a great help to me later in college.  It helped organize my thoughts in a logical manner and then put them down on paper.  One has to wonder if kids today learn to write themes.

Prior to my current happy career as a Realtor in Vero Beach, Florida, I enjoyed my teaching years from nursery school when my children were young to teaching Advanced Placement English that allows high school students to earn college credits by passing a national exam at the end of the course.  I will always remember you as an inspiration.

Sincerely,

Ginger Cannon Mitchell

After attending Mizzou for two years I paid Mrs. Shields a visit between her classes one day. I told her that I was seriously considering writing as a career. She looked at me, smiled and said “Don’t quit your day job”. Good advice. I agree with Hal, her class taught me invaluable lessons in organizing my thoughts and getting them down on paper in a meaningful way that stayed with me thru my working life.
