Tom Hunter

Thomas R. Hunter, 77, died Nov. 11 at home in Driggs, Idaho. His family provided the following.

Thomas was born Feb. 23, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Robert and Naomi Hunter. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1961. He then served in the U.S. Air Force in Wichita, Kansas, where he received his pilot’s license and developed his lifelong love of flying.

He met his wife, Debbie, in Kansas City in 1970, and they were married on Feb. 14, 1971.

Tom was a loyal member of many flying clubs, golf clubs and business clubs. He moved to Jackson Hole in 1976 to build the first condos of what was called Meadowlark behind the R J Bar. In 1977 he moved to Driggs, where he met the most wonderful people.

Tom stayed busy with construction, baseball, hunting, golf and just drinking tall tales with his buds.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Denise O’Neill.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie, his son, Ladd Taylor, and grandchildren, Casey (Cody) Maskell and Paisley Taylor. He is also survived by brothers Dick (Joy) Hunter and Jimmy (Deb) Hunter, sisters Julie and Carol Jayne Hunter and somewhat adopted siblings Chuck (Karen), Gary Peters and Diane (Gary) L’Heuruex.

Those who would like to remember Tom in a special way may make gifts in his name to the Young Eagles of Driggs Reed Memorial Airport, in lieu of flowers. Condolences may be sent to the family online at ValleyMortuaryDriggs.com.

Though his smile is gone forever and his hand I cannot touch

I still have so many memories of the one I loved so much.

His memory is now my keepsake, which with I will never part,

God has him in His keeping, I have him in my heart.

Sadly missed, but never forgotten!

I think Tom found true happiness up in those beautiful mountains with Debbie.  Before building a successful business he and Debbie lived a Hippie life style living in a tent in the Colorado Mountains at one time.
