Bob Farmer

Baldwin, KS Nov. 11, 1961

One youth was killed and another injured today in a motor car accident west of here on U.S. 56.

Robert Farmer, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. James B. Farmer, 2807 East Fifth-Seventh street terrace, Kansas City North, was killed when the motor car left the highway and plowed into a creek bank. Highway troopers said he suffered a broken neck.

The driver and owner of the car, Larry Stogsdill, 18, of 408 Belmont, Liberty, MO., was found by passing motorists standing near a bridge about 8:30 o'clock this morning. He suffered lacerations and a fractured collar bone. He was unable to tell officers how or when the accident occurred. He was taken to the Lawrence Memorial hospital.

Both youths were members of a band and had played for a fraternity dance last night at Baker university here. Farmer was a freshman at Southwest Missouri State college, Springfield.

I remember many things about Bob, we were in Marching Band through High School. I listened to him sing and play the Sax in Larry Stogsdill's band. I was supposed to be with Larry and Bob on the night of the fatal crash that took Bob from us. It has hurt me deeply and I have blamed myself for years afterward that if I had been with them that night, maybe that accident could have been avoided. I loved to hear Bob sing "Good Golly Miss Molly" and other Little Richard songs. Bob was one of many that came and spent time at my off campus apartment at SMS. (Good times) Sometimes we would meet up and walk to classes together there. Bob would always have a song to sing. His voice will always be with me. Love you friend, til we meet again, keep on singing.
